It was a rainy day in Dublin City, but that didn’t keep us down. Instead: we donned raincoats and popped umbrellas and headed north to Glasnevin Cemetery–the city’s largest graveyard. Within the cemetery’s confines lie some of the nation’s most renowned personages. We peeped final resting places of politician, Glasnevin founder, and Irish “Liberator” Daniel O’Connell; revolutionary and actress Maud Gonne; heralded politician Michael Collins; and gun-toting nationalist Countess Markievicz. We wrote poetry and prose in the drizzle. And, when the clouds parted for a short, misty hour, we took to the plots exploring final messages and momentos. Oh, the things we discovered!
(This list includes many profound things about Irish life, history, and culture. It also includes the fact that Ariana Grande came through Glasnevin a few weeks ago, and took a glamorous [if confusing] insta with her dog under the ewe trees that line the lames. Please see our squad restaging this scene below.)
